BIG FOOT THEATRE COMPANY/JULES' JUNK BAND

On the 19th of November 2009 students from year 9 took part in a Performing Arts afternoon which was organised in conjunction with the Devon Arts in Schools Initiative (Daisi) and the Helen Foundation.

Half of the group were treated to an energetic improvisation workshop with Kate Mears and Polly Willows from Bigfoot Theatre Company.  Mrs Churchill (Head of Performing Arts) was delighted with the session ‘Bigfoot pitched the session just right making it relevant, challenging and lots of fun.’

The other half of the group took part in a Junk Band master class with Jules Evans.  Mr Kidd (Music Teacher) said ‘Jules had lots of amazing junk instruments which the students all got to experience.  The sound was phenomenal’.

The afternoon was rounded off with a speech by the founder of the Helen Foundation. He explained the charity’s sad origins but also highlighted the great opportunities for young artists, musicians and performers the charity has gone on to create.
