School Sport Partnerships are groups of schools working together to develop PE and sport opportunities for all young people.

The role of the SSP is to deliver the key strands of the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People.

The main aim of the PE and Sport Strategy is to enhance the take-up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 year olds. The target is for every child to have access to five hours of sporting opportunities a week-  known as the ‘5 hour offer’.

Structure of School Sports Partnerships

A typical partnership consists of a Partnership Development Manager (PDM), usually based at a Sports College. The PDM will manage all the local secondary schools, through working with a School Sport Coordinator (SSCo) based at each school. In turn, the SSCo will work with the feeder primary schools, liaising with the Primary link Teacher (PLT) at each primary school.
