Careers education for all students is embedded throughout the school curriculum and is delivered in a variety of ways. We aim to develop in pupils:

  • an awareness of the available range, routes and levels of entry for educational, vocational, leisure, training and re-training opportunities;

  • an awareness of the impact of technological and economic changes and how this might affect future employment;

  • the ability to manage transitions and change;

  • the ability to challenge traditional attitudes that encourage stereotyping and prevent equal opportunities;

  • an awareness of how and from whom careers information can be obtained and the range of services offered by the various support agencies.

Welcome to the Careers homepage

We are a lively, enthusiastic and developing department who aim to provide all students with the skills for life after Teign. We recently received the Investors in Work Related and Enterprise Learning Award. The Assessor commented "I have never seen a school so advanced for their first IWREL submission and assessment. This is testament to all the excellent work being undertaken in the school and this achievement should be recognised and celebrated by the staff, students, governors, community and business partners at Teign". We are currently seeking reassessment for the Investors in Careers Award.

In addition we aim to:

Develop and expand the dialogue and links with businesses and the local community.

Contribute to the Citizenship programme by developing resources concerned with:

  • Money matters, eg salaries, savings and benefits;
  • Using spare/leisure time effectively;
  • Citizen's rights and responsibilities.

Provide an enterprising learning environment including;

  • Enterprise capability;
  • Financial capability;
  • Business and economic understanding.
All pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a Work Experience or Placement within their last year of compulsory education. This should be 1-2 weeks. It is intended to be seen as developmental and pupils can expect to be offered further opportunities post 16.

There is a large Careers Library, next to the School Library, equipped with reference material, resources and 15 networked computers. We can be found in our office next to the Careers Library, details below:
