Rehearsals are now well underway for the 2010 Teign School Production.  The ‘Performing Arts Department’ have chosen the stage version of Disney’s award winning ‘High School Musical’.  It certainly seems to have been a popular choice with over 200 people signing up to audition, play in the band or help out behind the scenes.

With a plot described by the author as a modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, High School Musical is a story about two high school juniors from rival cliques – Troy Bolton (played by Luke Smith, Year 11), captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (played by Lauren Coates), a shy transfer student who excels in maths and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick to the status quo".

Emma Deavin who has been cast in the role of Sharpay Evans ‘I feel very privileged to have this opportunity and I can’t wait to bop, bop, bop to the top!’

Luke Smith and Lauren Coates who have been cast as Troy and Gabriella are both ecstatic about February’s performance ‘we actually can’t wait!’

Fay Churchill (Head of Performing Arts/Director) ‘The auditions were really exciting but very difficult.  There is so much talent at Teign School that we could have cast the main roles several different ways and had to call back students many times as it was just so close.   The rehearsals are going really well and if the cast keep their current levels of commitment and enthusiasm this show will be an amazing success.’

Public performances are taking place at 7.00pm on Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th and Saturday 6th (Matinee and Evening) February 2010 in Teign School Drama Hall.  Tickets are available from January 4th (£4 Students and £6 Adults).
